PWE stands for Plain White Envelope. It is the lowest-cost shipping method on TCGPlayer and is typically used for cheap single cards worth a few dollars or less. A PWE offers no tracking and no insurance, so it is best for low-value transactions where the buyer accepts the risk. For cards worth $5 or more, most sellers use a bubble mailer with tracking (BMWT) to protect themselves and their buyers.
The essentials are penny sleeves (to protect card surfaces), standard 3×4 top loaders (to keep cards rigid), team bags (to seal the top loader), and envelopes or bubble mailers for shipping. For a thermal printer setup you'll also need 4×6 direct thermal label rolls. As your volume grows, consider a label printer like the Rollo or MUNBYN so you can stop handwriting addresses.
If a buyer reports a lost package, first verify the tracking status through USPS or the carrier. If the package shows delivered, ask the buyer to check with neighbors and their local post office. If it shows in transit beyond a reasonable timeframe, file a missing mail search with USPS. For orders shipped with tracking and insurance, you can file a claim. For PWE orders without tracking, TCGPlayer's seller protection policies apply — refer to their help documentation for the current terms.
This tool is specifically designed for the TCGPlayer packing list CSV format. Other platforms like eBay, Amazon, or Whatnot use different export formats with different column names. The tool does attempt to detect common column name variations, so it may work partially with some exports, but it is not guaranteed. Full support for other platforms is not currently planned.
The standard method for a PWE is: sleeve the card in a penny sleeve, slide it into a standard 3×4 top loader, seal the top of the top loader with a small strip of tape or slide it into a team bag, then insert it into the envelope between two pieces of cardboard or an index card for rigidity. For BMWT, use the same steps but place the top-loaded card in a bubble mailer and seal it securely. Never bend the flap over a stiff card — it will crease the card.
When you ship via TCGPlayer's marketplace system, you can purchase a shipping label directly through their platform using USPS Click-N-Ship or a similar integration. Alternatively, you can purchase labels through Pirateship.com (which offers commercial pricing on USPS labels) and manually enter the tracking number into your TCGPlayer order. Always enter tracking numbers before the shipment deadline to keep your account in good standing.
This can happen if your CSV has trailing blank lines, special characters in addresses, or inconsistent quoting from the TCGPlayer export. The tool filters out blank rows automatically. If you're getting an error about unrecognized columns, open the CSV in a text editor to check the actual header row. Common issues include invisible BOM characters at the start of the file or extra spaces in column names — the tool handles most of these cases, but a severely malformed file may need to be re-exported from TCGPlayer.
